Artful Love - Feb 2010

April 2009, Roslindale, MA...The Roslindale Arts Alliance announces a new art exhibit at Bangkok Cafe in Roslindale. During the months of April and May 2009, work by Bill Mahan will be shown. Bangkok Cafe is located at 25 Poplar Street, Roslindale. 617-327-8810. www.bangkok-cafe.com.

About the artist

Bill Mahan recently retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers and much of the travel he did has found its way into his paintings. Mostly a realistic painter, he usually works from photographs he takes himself. He has recently developed an interest in the look and style of the early 1900s and has begun to use old family photos to focus on that period. He works almost exclusively with acrylics because he controls that medium best, both in technique and in the collateral process of cleaning up.

Bill was born in Boston and has lived in West Roxbury for the last ten years. He has been painting recreationally for about thirty five years and is self taught as an artist. He is a member of the Roslindale Arts Alliance, the Concord and West Roxbury Art Associations He has won numerous awards competing in juried shows throughout eastern Massachusetts. He has made multiple appearances on the BNN show “It’s All About Arts” and has been written about in the West Roxbury/Roslindale Transcript. He has had solo shows at the Co-operative Bank in West Roxbury, Olde Town Real Estate in Roslindale, the Library in Chelmsford, and has just closed a four year show at Concord Park. He has also been displayed in local shows at City Hall, Logan Airport, the Charles Theater, Emack and Bolios, and is currently on exhibit in the Boston Convention Center Art Gallery in South Boston.

He paints to please himself but certainly hopes to have pleased you too. More of his work can be seen at his website at http://www.simplesite.com/Mahan-Art. He can be reached by e-mail at wmahan@rcn.com. Please send your comments.
