Programs are designed to give students an interactive experience with all visual art mediums. Hands on
experience give youth the opportunity for creative self expression through the proper use and
maintenance of watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels, crayons, markers, clay and paper.
According to Diane Joyce, Director of Programming Boston Centers for Youth & Families
“BCYF is committed to making our community centers neighborhood hubs for programs and resources and vibrant parts of the community that engage and connect neighborhood residents. As part of this effort, we are working to become the leader in providing quality programs for Boston’s children, youth and families. To do so, we have established program standards and have implemented the ACES (Arts, Community and Civic Engagement, Education & Sports) program framework.
As an integral part of ACES, we want to expand arts programming across the community center network. As we have heard over and over again from youth, they want a chance to express themselves and develop their creativity through the arts. Research proves that the arts can improve young peoples’ attitudes about themselves and their futures as well as improve academic achievement and reduce delinquent behavior. Now more than ever as arts programs are cut from the school day and other community organizations, it is important to give our children and youth access to the arts. It has been a pleasure working with the Roslindale Arts
Alliance and we look forward to continue and foster our partnership.”
